Section 1: The Rise of Islam
Muhammad (570- 632) was the creator of Islam. He is said to be God's messenger. At first few people listened to his teachings, many people despised what he was preaching.The hijra was the turning point for Islam. In Medina muslim coverts welcomed Muhammad and agreed to follow his teachings. Muhammad united Muslims and brought peace among the clans of Medina. As his reputation grew thousands of Arabs adopted Islam as their religion. After he died the faith he proclaimed continued to spread. The Quran is the sacred text of Islam. Observant Muslims follow 5 basic duties known as the Five Pillars of Islam. The Sharia is the Islamic body of law that includes interpretations of the Quran. Islam extended rights and protection to women by affirming the spiritual equality of all Muslims.
